Questions about 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D and High Def Ultrasounds?

Can I bring guests?

YES! We have seating for 8 people. You can bring 9 people including mom, and YES children are more than welcome. We can’t wait to see you and your loved ones.

How does 3D 4D & 5D ultrasound work?

Ultrasound works by listening to sound waves that are directed and bounced back from specialized equipment, resulting in an image. In 3D 4D and 5D ultrasound, those same sound waves are used, but this time they’re directed down at various planes, enabling the receiving equipment to “see” the image as three-dimensional. Essentially 3D 4D and 5D is exactly the same as 2D ultrasound, but different software is used to interpret the data collected and create these amazing images.

What areas do you serve?

Our office is located in Fairfield California, halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. We have had customers come from as far away as Santa Cruz and San Jose, but most of our customers are from Antioch, Stockton, Vacaville, Fairfield, Vallejo, Vacaville, Napa, and Contra Costa areas.

Is 3D 4D and 5D ultrasound safe?

3D 4D 5D ultrasound uses the exact same intensity frequency as 2D ultrasound — which have been in use for decades for routine diagnostic imaging. The machines operate in “obstetrics mode” which falls below the FDA’s limits of 94 milliwatts/cm2 for exposure. Ultrasounds are generally recognized as safe and low-risk by medical professionals. So no need to worry about this “just for fun” non-diagnostic ultrasound.

What’s the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasound?

2D was the standard for ultrasound imaging and sex determination for a long time. 2D images can appear flat, however, and often require the technician to “chase the baby” in order to get an optimal image.

3D ultrasound results in high-resolution, 3 dimensional images of baby. 3D images provide a clearer, more realistic first look of baby.

4D Ultrasound adds the dimension of motion, creating a “video” of baby’s movements. With 4D ultrasound technology, the still images produced with 3D ultrasound are played one right after another, creating a moving picture in real time. 4D allows you to see a baby moving, yawning, stretching, and smiling in real time.

5D ultrasound adds another layer of realism to your picture of baby by producing a 3-dimensional image with realistic reddish-pink tones. The “flesh tone” can give the feeling of looking at baby right inside the womb.

When is the best time to take a 3D 4D 5D ultrasound picture?

It depends on what your goal is. If you are trying to hear your baby’s heartbeat, that can be done anytime after 10 weeks. If you are looking for a gender determination, that can be done anytime after 16 weeks. 3D 4D 5D Ultrasound can be done at any time after 14 weeks as well, but “The Sweet Spot” is between 26 and 34 weeks.

What if I’m having twins?

Having twins? Let us know when you schedule your session. (We’re twin parents, ourselves!) We recommend scheduling an earlier appointment if you’re having twins; around 22 weeks. An earlier session can help you get a clearer image of both of your babies. Waiting too long can make it more difficult to get a clear image of both babies. We recommend a 4D video of your twins, so you can see them interact with each other in real time!

Can I schedule a weekend or evening appointment?

Yes, you can. We accept Saturday and evening appointments, ensuring you and your loved ones are able to take the time you need to see your baby for the first time. Evening and weekend appointments fill up fast, however, so we encourage you to book your appointment as soon as possible for one of these high-interest time spots.

What should I do before my session?

Ultrasounds LOVE WATER! Getting very hydrated THE WEEK BEFORE you come in can increase your amniotic fluid and result in a clearer picture of baby. During the week leading up to your appointment, be sure to drink plenty of water and Pedialyte if you can.

Do I need to bring anything to my session?

Bring your (well-hydrated) self, any loved ones that would like to join you, and an excitement to see your baby! If you’re bringing young children, we recommend having another adult along to help so you can fully enjoy the 3D 4D ultrasound experience in our studio.

What should I wear?

We want you to be comfortable at your session! Our trained technician will need to access your abdomen, so a two-piece outfit (separate top and bottom) is recommended. Your one-piece rompers and sundresses are adorable, but not very practical for an ultrasound session. Other than that, you be you!

Do I take home my pictures on the day of my appointment?

You will take home pictures on your appointment day! There’s no need to wait a moment longer for images to be delivered to you later, you can take home your pictures of baby that same day.

Can you tell me the sex of my baby?

We offer early gender detection starting at 7 weeks using a sneak peak DNA test or as early as 14 weeks using 2D ultrasound technology. The wait is over - let us help you find out your baby’s gender.

Do I still need to see my doctor?

YES! Our 3D 4D ultrasound is elective and non-diagnostic. The session is elective imaging, with the goal of letting you see your baby’s face for the first time. It is not a replacement for your regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments or for medical diagnostic imaging to determine the health of your baby. Please continue to see your doctor and attend all regularly scheduled medical visits to ensure the health and safety of your baby.

Do you take insurance?

Our 3D 4D ultrasound procedure is elective, and therefore not typically covered under insurance, but is generally affordable.
